It feels like we’ve been thrown into a new world, with little time to prepare. While we’ve scrambled to adjust, two things have come to light: the Internet can no longer be seen as a luxury, and there is a desperate need for business adaptability.

With the requirement of working remotely, it’s important to consider the best ways to tackle the time under lockdown. The following four techniques will help you set up your workspace – which doubles as a study space – so that you can settle into “work from home” in the smoothest way possible.

Have a Dedicated Working Space

It might sound simple, but setting up a workspace specifically committed to your work and studying is a total game-changer in helping generate motivation and productivity. If you’re not used to working from home, it requires a mental shift to move from “being home” to “being at work”. Make the shift that much easier and set up a spot in your home strictly dedicated to your workspace – keep the “home” life in its own space too. (This means avoiding working from bed!)

Routine, Routine, Routine

It’s easy – and tempting – to roll out of bed and pick up your laptop when you feel like it, but it’s crippling to motivation. Set up for success and pick a routine you can stick to every day. In the same way that you might rely on routine in an office setting, set an alarm, wake up, work out (if you’re so inclined), and hit the ground running. With coffee in your cup and a pep in your step, this time spent working from home can see exceptional results in productivity.

Prioritise Clear Communication Through Chosen Platforms

Is your company using Zoom? Great! Skype the go-to channel for your team? Then stick to it! Take advantage of the technology in place to communicate with your team members and keep your messaging clear. If you have questions – ask them! In a remote capacity, it’s difficult to gauge if there’s miscommunication – so rather stick to over-communicating and staying on the same page.

Use the Internet to Connect with Like-Minded Individuals

Working in an office has the irreplaceable benefit of having people around to bat ideas off. Make sure you take advantage of technology to fulfil your social needs. Engaging with others – even online – can help stir up new, innovative thinking.  Explore the opportunity in the obstacle and keep your ideas flowing.

Use the Internet to Learn More

This is a time unlike any other when we are fully reliant on technology to work, connect, and socialise.
